As 2015 draws to a close – and this blog approaches her eighth birthday – I’ve been reflecting on a milestone year: from the reissue of The Mmm Girl and my inclusion in Fan Phenomena: Marilyn Monroe, to the publication of Jeanne Eagels: A Life Revealed, and my continuing association with Art Decades magazine.

But before I head back to the salt mines, I’d like to thank all my readers for supporting me. Wishing you all a wonderful 2016: and don’t forget to check out my annual picks in music, books, movies and TV.

p27-02-00cropArthur Fiedler was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 17, 1894. His father, Emanuel, was an Austrian violinist; and his mother was a pianist. When Emanuel retired in 1910, the family moved to Europe. From 1911-15, Arthur studied violin in Berlin. As World War I began, he returned to America and joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Webb Parmelee Hollenbeck was born in Indiana on November 19, 1889. His father, Jacob Grant Hollenbeck, a ticket clerk, had married Mabel A. Parmelee, daughter of a railroad conductor, earlier that year. They separated in 1891, and ‘little Webb’ was raised by his mother. Continue reading →
