Keith Badman is a British music journalist who has published books about The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Badman has spent the last five years researching and writing about Marilyn Monroe, and The Final Years is the result. In his introduction, Badman writes, ‘I forensically set about my task of separating the fact from the fiction…My intention was simple: to deliver, in book form, the most honest and accurate account of this period ever published.’ Continue reading →

Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis are indelibly linked in the public consciousness for two main reasons: firstly, they co-starred in the comedy classic, Some Like It Hot (1959); and secondly, because when asked what kissing Marilyn was like, Curtis allegedly replied, ‘Like kissing Hitler.’ Continue reading →

Back Row Brighton: Cinema-Going in Brighton and Hove is the latest offering from Queenspark Books, a community publisher since 1974. Specialising in the reminiscences of local people, and writing and editing with volunteers, Queenspark has created a unique, alternate history of Brighton. It also provides a focus for aspiring writers with a number of ongoing courses, groups and workshops, and is used as a learning resource by schools in the area.

Given its cultural atmosphere and lively past, it is perhaps unsurprising that Brighton has played a part in the evolution of cinema, from the camera’s invention until the present day. Continue reading →
